Note: This analysis of Silver will focus on his appearances in the main games’ canon, while other media like the Archie comics will not be included. Equipment, abilities, and supporting feats from side media, like the IDW comics, will also be included.
Background
Silver is a hedgehog from 200 years in the future who was born into a catastrophic world. An optimist who wants nothing but a peaceful world, he, alongside his best friend Blaze, would fight off the Flames of Disaster known as Iblis on multiple occasions. These constant struggles would eventually lead him to meeting Mephiles, who told him and Blaze that their world could be saved by returning to the past and killing the one responsible for Iblis. Mephiles told them who this Iblis Trigger was: a blue hedgehog named Sonic. He brought them to the past in order to accomplish this goal.
Silver would end up fighting and almost killing Sonic, though with the help of a pink hedgehog girl named Amy Rose, Sonic got away, and led Silver to thinking that maybe it wasn’t right to kill someone to save the world. He and Blaze would end up helping Sonic in saving a princess named Elise from Dr. Eggman. After Elise’s supposed death, Silver and Blaze split up with Sonic, with the latter going to the past to save Elise and the former two going back to the future to stop Iblis with the help of two Chaos Emeralds. After defeating Iblis once again, Blaze, using the power of the emeralds, sacrificed herself by sealing Iblis in her own soul and sending herself into another dimension.
While evil seemed to have lost, Mephiles was able to release the Iblis of the present. He formed with Iblis to create the time god Solaris, but Silver, along with Sonic and Shadow, were able to defeat him. Sonic and Elise would then travel back in time to snuff out Solaris’s flame, making sure he never existed in the future to begin with. This would reset the world’s timeline, meaning Silver’s meetings with Sonic and his friends never occurred. This included Blaze, as this new timeline didn’t have her in his future. However, as future calamities would occur, Silver would go to the past to help save the world again and again, and he would meet all of his friends for the first time yet again, including Blaze.

Power Bracelet
A pair of bracelets that allow Silver to use the Grab-All technique.
Heart of Wind
An item that allows Silver to use the Teleport Dash technique.
Shock Bracelet
A pair of bracelets that allow Silver to use the Psychoshock technique.
Psychic Wave
An Extreme Gear board that Silver can ride. As an Extreme Gear, it hovers off the ground and can go at incredibly fast speeds. It has two types of fuel sources, which are Gravity Points, or GP for short, and Air. It is all around balanced, being average in dash, limit, power, and turn. Silver can also grind on rails and release a burst of air to move even faster with the Kick Dash technique. Lastly, the board has things called Gear Parts built into it, which grant it additional boons. It has Max Speed UP to increase its top speed, Air Ride to maintain altitude and glide through the air, and GP Gauge UP to increase the capacity of how much GP it can have. They have to be manually used, and they can only be used once. Silver can actually swap these out for other Gear Parts, as there are many types.
Gravity Band
A band that allows Silver to control gravity by using GP. There are two specific techniques he can perform with it. He can use Gravity Control to go into zero gravity before immediately choosing another direction to go in, which includes going onto walls, or Gravity Dive to create a pseudo-black hole that gives him a burst of speed while in midair. Gravity Control can also be used to launch objects and affect others, while Gravity Dive can let him bounce off of other surfaces to get more speed boosts.
Lightron
Silver’s personal racing vehicle created by Dodon Pa. It normally has high handling and acceleration with moderate boost and defense, but slightly below average top speed. However, the parts of the car can be swapped out with other Performance Parts to change its stats. Silver can also attack enemies while in it, whether by ramming into them or using Wisps to perform a Rival Takedown or blast forward as an unstoppable projectile with the Team Ultimate technique.
Power-Ups / Items
Silver has a multitude of power-ups and items that he’s used, which he normally finds in Item Boxes. The following is a list of all the power-ups and items that Silver’s used:

Colorball: An item that obscures enemies’ visions.
Explosion: A power-up that summons a bomb that rolls at enemies before exploding. It can also be used as a time bomb that follows behind him before launching it at enemies with Gravity Control, though using other methods like his psychokinesis to launch it seems reasonable.
High Speed: A power-up that increases the speed of Silver’s Extreme Gear.
Thunder Shield: A power-up that forms an electrified shield around Silver that attracts Rings to him and protects him from one attack.
Missile: A normal missile that Silver can launch at enemies using Gravity Control, though using other methods like his psychokinesis to launch it seems reasonable.

Tornado: Three fans that Silver can set as a trap for enemies to run into that launches them into the air with gusts of wind.
Firework Flurry: Up to three fireworks that Silver can launch one at a time at enemies that detonate on impact. They come in three different colors, which he gets at random, meaning he could have two or even three of the same type or have one of each. Red fireworks slow enemies down due to their power, yellow fireworks stun them, and blue fireworks freeze them solid.
Pyro-Mine: A bomb that Silver can set as a trap for enemies to run into that detonates on impact.
Wisps
Alien creatures that possess Hyper-go-on, an energy source that they can grant to Silver to use in various ways. There are many types of Wisps, each with their own unique abilities called Color Powers, which last for a limited amount of time. The following is a list of all the Wisps and their Color Powers that Silver can use:
White Wisp: A Wisp that grants White Boost, which boosts Silver or his vehicle’s speed immensely while plowing through enemies.
Cyan Wisp: A Wisp that grants Cyan Laser, which turns Silver into a laser that moves at incredible speed while reflecting off surfaces and hurting enemies who get in the way or by an electric field created when he turns back or fires a continuous laser that hurts those who get exposed to it for too long. If there are no surfaces when turned into a laser, he will only move in a straight line.
Yellow Wisp: A Wisp that grants Yellow Drill, which turns Silver into a fast drill that can dig underground and pierce through enemies. He can also freely swim underwater as a drill.
Orange Wisp: A Wisp that grants Orange Rocket, which turns Silver into a rocket that can create propulsions to fly upwards at high speeds or launches a rocket that rebounds off surfaces until it hits enemies and detonates.
Blue Wisp: A Wisp that grants Blue Cube, which turns Silver into a cube that can create shock waves to destroy enemies and projectiles while turning blue blocks into blue rings and vice versa or drops a cube onto the ground that damages those who run into it.
Pink Wisp: A Wisp that grants Pink Spikes, which turns Silver into a spiky ball that can stick to surfaces to climb them and tear through enemies with spikes or a powerful Spin Dash or creates three balls that spin around him and create spikes to attack those who get too close. The Wisp itself can also headbutt enemies to hurt them with the spikes on its head.
Red Wisp: A Wisp that grants Red Burst, which turns Silver into a fireball that can create shields of flames and explosions to burn enemies or send himself higher into the air or leave behind a trail of fire that scorches those that run into it. As a fireball, he can also create a massive explosion that has the downside of turning him back to normal early.
Violet Wisp: A Wisp that grants Violet Void, which turns Silver into a ghostly void that can fly around with intangibility while sucking in enemies and objects like a black hole or sucks in objects and projectiles defensively while slowing others down.
Indigo Wisp: A Wisp that grants Indigo Asteroid, which turns Silver into a small planet that flies around with a gravitational field that sucks in enemies and objects to make a bigger and bigger asteroid field with a stronger gravitational pull.
Crimson Wisp: A Wisp that grants Crimson Eagle, which turns Silver into an eagle that can fly in the air while attracting Rings and can perform dashes that hurt enemies or fires an eagle-shaped energy projectile that homes in on enemies before detonating on impact.
Magenta Wisp: A Wisp that grants Magenta Rhythm, which turns Silver into a musical note that can bounce on air to travel and interact with other notes when bouncing to earn Rings or creates musical notes that blocks enemies’ visions and makes them move slower.
Black Wisp: A Wisp that grants Black Bomb, which turns Silver into a bomb that can roll and bounce around to crush enemies to become larger before detonating in an explosion that’s bigger the bigger the bomb becomes or throws a bomb forward that detonates after a short while or when they touch it.
Ivory Wisp: A Wisp that grants Ivory Lightning, which turns Silver into a lightning bolt that can travel through circuits and move really fast while forming treads of electricity that can electrocute enemies or be used as tethers to grab onto targets or creates an electric aura above enemies before striking them with electricity after a while.
Gray Wisp: A Wisp that grants Gray Quake, which turns Silver into an extremely heavy iron ball that can roll and climb on walls and attack enemies by rolling over them or falling on them from great heights while creating shock waves that can also damage them or creates giant stone pillars that emerge from the ground and hurt those that run into them.
Jade Wisp: A Wisp that grants Jade Ghost, which turns Silver and his equipment completely invisible and intangible while also being able to steal things from others.
Chaos Emeralds
Seven legendary relics that hold lots of power. With one of them, Silver can perform Chaos Control, and with all seven, he can transform into Super Silver.
Powers & Abilities
Psychokinesis
A power that’s common in Silver’s future that allows him to pick up and move around objects with nothing but his mind, and he can even ride on top of them, bend them, forcibly open them up, break them open, or crush them. He can even activate machinery. He can objects he controls offensively against enemies by throwing them as projectiles, creating a makeshift ram to charge at them, or crushing them. Silver can even use this on enemies to keep them in place and control their movements, make them submit, or forcefully push, throw, or slam them, and he can even tear them apart. He can also do it against multiple of them at once, even in multiple directions all around him. Using it defensively this way lets him protect himself from others trying to attack him physically. The glow from when he uses his psychokinesis can also help him see better in the dark.
His psychokinesis also allows him to manipulate psychic energy, which he can use to launch energy orb projectiles, create explosions, make point-blank blasts, create tethers to hang onto things or others, generate an energy field that attracts items, or form forcefields around himself for protection that can also hurt enemies. He can even form forcefields around others to protect allies or objects, trap others, or capture speedier enemies that he can’t focus on with his psychokinesis. His psychic energy manipulation, along with his normal psychokinetic abilities, can also be used for various named techniques. The following is a list of all the techniques Silver can perform with his psychokinesis:
Psycho Smash: Silver charges up his psychic powers before releasing a shock wave that stuns enemies and pushes objects away from him, which becomes stronger the longer he charges it. He can also use it to disperse energy-based things or blast enemies away.
Psychoshock: A stronger variant of the Psycho Smash. With the Shock Bracelet, Silver can jump into the air and charge psychic energy into his hand before slamming it on the ground to create a shock wave around himself that stuns enemies and knocks things away.
Levitate: Using his psychokinesis on himself, Silver can make himself levitate in the air, which he can do for long periods of time to fly around while fighting at incredible speeds. It even lets him fly fast enough to keep up with Sonic, and he can also slow his descent when in the air. Similar to his normal telekinesis, Silver can also make others levitate alongside him.
Hold Smash: With the Single-Layered Extreme, Silver can throw the objects he’s carrying with psychokinesis all at once.
Grab-All: With the Power Bracelet, Silver can expand the range of his psychokinesis and catch enemies’ projectiles that he can then throw back at them.
Teleport Dash: With the Heart of Wind, Silver can dash instantaneously while warping through space to phase through enemies and their attacks.
ESP: Silver releases a widespread wave of psychic energy that attacks enemies’ minds, which disorients them for a while.
Psychic Knife: Using psychic energy, Silver can form and launch a wide-ranged blade projectile at enemies, which he can do both vertically and horizontally.
Psychic Arrest: Silver surrounds enemies with psychic energy before detonating it.
Meteor Smash: Silver’s most devastating attack, where he gathers as many objects as he can together to form a giant ball that he rolls at enemies to crush them. He can also throw it directly at them instead of making it roll.
ESP State: After discovering his true power, Silver can enter a state that enhances his physical abilities with his psychokinetic powers.
Teleportation
Silver is capable of teleporting himself, granting him higher mobility and an option to dodge attacks. He can also teleport other things like objects for him to throw with his psychokinesis.
Spin Attack
A technique where Silver curls into a ball with sharpened spines out for various purposes, ranging from attacking enemies, moving around quicker, or both. He can also jump while curled up and bounce off the ground by slamming down into it. It’s the basis for other spin-related moves too. The following is a list of the all the techniques Silver can perform with the Spin Attack:
Spin Jump: Silver curls into a ball and jumps into enemies to attack. He also bounces off of them if he hits them from above.
Spin Dash: Silver curls into a ball and charges up while spinning in place before blasting forward in a burst of speed that can hurt enemies who get in the way.
Homing Attack: Silver curls into a ball and launches himself at enemies while homing in and bouncing off them.
Jump Dash: Silver curls into a ball while in the air and dashes forward to get around and reach top speeds more quickly while attacking any enemies in the way.
Triple Jump
After a jump or when in midair, Silver can perform a second and third jump to go even higher.
Grinding
Silver can grind on rails or anything similar to a rail, and he can also hop between rails or crouch while on them to go faster. He can even ride on rails that go in loops.
Slide
While running, Silver can slide along the ground while keeping momentum to dodge obstacles and attack enemies.
Dash Boost
A speed-enhancing technique where Silver envelops himself in an aura before dashing forward at incredible speeds. This can plow through enemies and obstacles that get in his way. However, Silver is limited in how long he can perform it.
Chaos Control
A Chaos power that Silver can perform while using at least one Chaos Emerald. The most notable use with it for him is creating portals that let him and others travel to the past or future. The same portal can even take one to the past while taking another to the future. While Silver needed help to time travel by having himself and another use Chaos Control simultaneously, for all other times he’s traveled to the past, it seems he’s done so all by himself. Also, while he hasn’t used Chaos Control in these ways, it’s stated that Silver can use it to stop time and seal others in alternate dimensions.
Super State
By absorbing a massive amount of positive energy from the seven Chaos Emeralds, Silver can transform into Super Silver, a state that enhances his power and speed immensely, as well as grants him flight and invulnerability. This form even increases the range of his psychokinesis and lets him detect things on a global scale. Silver can also perform Turbo Boosts to dash in midair to get around faster. Lastly, he can use a technique called Shield of Light, which forms his psychokinetic powers into an energy shield in front of him that automatically catches projectiles before letting him launch them back at enemies. However, Silver’s Super State consumes Rings, and if he runs out, he will be unable to maintain the form.

Training & Experience
Destroyed a group of Eggman’s robots with a single psychokinetic attack
Learned and used Chaos Control successfully despite only seeing it used once seconds beforehand
Saved the planet from being turned into a card from Eggman Nega
Caught Tails off guard and stole his Rings, who’s perceptive enough to have noticed the ninja Espio following him
Is unaffected by changes in the past whenever he saves the future from disaster
Used his psychokinesis as Super Silver to remove a metal virus from the entire Earth
Defeated Sonic, Eggman Nega, Ifrit, Chaos, Zor, Iblis, and Solaris
Weaknesses
Silver, as an enthusiastic 14-year-old, is naive and has been tricked by others in the past, which sometimes even puts him and others in life threatening situations. Also, Dash Boosting can only be used for a limited amount of time, and the same goes for Color Powers granted by Wisps. While he has many impressive psychokinetic powers, these abilities also have a few weaknesses. If he’s focused on using his psychokinesis on other things, this leaves him somewhat vulnerable due to focusing on offense instead of defense.
Silver also is unable to grab lasers with his psychokinesis. He also has trouble grabbing onto precise things and faster enemies with his basic psychokinesis, though he has found alternatives in capturing them for the latter. If he overuses his powers, he will become exhausted and in need of many Rings to restore his energy. Sometimes overusing his powers can even make him struggle to move. Similarly, Super Silver also consumes Rings, and if he runs out, Silver will be unable to maintain the form. His invulnerability as Super Silver also costs him Rings if he does end up getting hit. Lastly, Silver himself can be affected by mental attacks despite being psychic.
