Lucina (Fire Emblem) – DEATH BATTLE! Analysis

Background

Lucina_official_art.png
Born into the world at probably one of the worst of times, Lucina is the daughter of Chrom, the Exalt of the Halidom of Ylisse. This of course makes Lucina the princess. However, when war struck when she was just a baby, her father was killed by his best friend Robin. Robin was, in fact, possessed by the resurrected Fell Dragon, Grima. The dragon ravaged the land, ruining the world.

Now with her father, and later mother, dead, Lucina attempted to defeat Grima using the Fire Emblem. However, she only had four of the five Gemstones needed to even use it. Despite this, she still seeked help from the Divine Dragon Naga to help defeat Grima. Naga couldn’t help her with her request due to missing one of the Gemstones, but she told Lucina another way to stop the Fell Dragon. Go to the past and prevent Grima from ever resurrecting in the first place.

Lucina later recruits her remaining friends to help out in saving the world by going to the past. She dons a mask to hide her identity to Chrom, as Chrom hadn’t had her yet and to hide the Mark of Naga in her eye. The Mark of Naga is the Brand of the Exalt, so if Chrom were to notice this, he’d begin to question her. After putting her mask on, she and her friends went inside the portal that would lead them to the past so they could save the world… while also getting separated and bringing enemies called the Risen from her future to the past.

Upon arrival in the past, she saved her aunt Lissa from getting killed by a Risen and met her father. Throughout the story, she’s helped saved the lives of others by going under the guise of her ancestor, Hero-King Marth. At one point, her mask was broken while saving Chrom, with him learning later on that Lucina is actually his daughter from the future. Lucina joined Chrom’s army to defeat Grima once and for all from then on.

Equipment

Parallel Falchion
Falchion_(FE13_Artwork).png
One of the royal treasures of Ylisse. After her father died, it was handed down to her, and she’s used it as her primary weapon ever since. She brought it back with her to the past, hence the name Parallel Falchion. Unlike a normal sword, it deals double the damage to dragons and is the only weapon to be able to seal Grima. Besides dealing more damage to dragons, Lucina can also use it on herself to heal a bit from her wounds.

Rapier
Rapier_(FE13_Artwork).png
A blade that deals double the damage to beasts and heavily armed enemies. It can be used 35 times before it breaks.

Levin Sword
Levin_Sword_(FE13_Artwork).png
A blade imbued with magical properties. It can be used in both short and long-ranged combat. For short-ranged, it deals heavy damage due to the hits being combined with electricity. For long-ranged, it shoots out electricity from the sky. It can be used 25 times before it breaks.

Brave Bow
FE13_Brave_Bow_Concept.png
A bow that gives Lucina the ability to attack two times consecutively. It can be used 30 times before it breaks.

Astra
FE13_Astra_Bow_Concept.png
A bow that gives Lucina the ability to attack five times consecutively, albeit, doing half the damage than normal with each hit. It can be used 30 times before it breaks.

Nidhogg
MHFG_Nidhogg_01.png
A sacred bow that deals double the damage against monsters and triple the damage against flying enemies. Despite the Lord class usually being unable to use bows, Lucina has shown to be able to use this weapon while in that class. It can be used 25 times before it breaks.

Silver Lance
Silver_LanceAwakening.png
A lance that has no special effects, but is extremely powerful. It can be used 30 times before it breaks.

Gradivus
FE13_Gradivus_Concept.png
A legendary lance that Lucina can use to either attack the enemy or heal herself completely from all wounds. It can be used 25 times before it breaks.

Wedding Bouquet

Powers & Abilities

Dual Strike+
DuelAttackPlus.png
A Skill that increases the chance of a Dual Strike happening.

Charm
Charisma_FE13.png
A Skill that increases the Accuracy and Avoid stats of all nearby allies.

Aether
FE13_Aether.png
A Skill where Lucina attacks with two consecutive hits. These two hits are essentially two different Skills on their own. The first hit acts like Sol, which makes Lucina recover half the damage she dealt and the second hit acts like Luna, which halves the target’s Defense and Resistance stats.

Rally Heart
Is_3ds_rally_heart.png
A Skill where Lucina can temporarily boost all of the stats of nearby allies.

Bond
Bond_skill.png
A Skill where Lucina slightly heals any nearby allies.

Dual Striker
Attack_Stance+.png
A Skill where if Lucina is a Support Unit, she will deal more damage if her ally is in Attack Stance.

Rightful King
RoyalWeapon.png
A Skill that increases the chance of other Skills activating.

Awakening
Awakening.png
A Skill that only activates when Lucina is under half her health. It increases her Hit Rate, Evasion, Critical Hit Rate, and Critical Evade stats.

Shield Breaker
LucinaShieldBreaker.png
An attack where Lucina thrusts her sword forward. The attack breaks the guard of her target and dazes them for a few seconds. It can be charged, dealing more damage and having a higher chance of breaking their guard. It has two other variations.

Variations:
  • Storm Thrust: The stab itself is much weaker, but it also creates a gust of wind that blows opponents away. The gust gets bigger the more she charges it.
  • Dashing Assault: The thrust propels Lucina forward, but it deals less damage. She goes farther the more she charges it.

Dancing Blade
LucinaDancingBlade.png
An attack where Lucina strikes the opponent consecutively with her sword a total of four times. The last three hits have three different types of sword swings, allowing her to use specific swords swings depending on the situation. It has two other variations.

Variations:
  • Effortless Blade: Lucina loses the ability to make the last three strikes different, but the hits are much easier to chain into each other. The attacks are also weaker.
  • Heavy Blade: The attacks all deal more damage, but it’s harder to chain them all together.

Dolphin Slash
LucinaDolphinSlash.png
An attack where Lucina uppercuts with her sword. She goes up surprisingly high, making it great to hit an airborne enemy. It has two other variations.

Variations:
  • Crescent Slash: Lucina gives up vertical distance for horizontal distance during the uppercut.
  • Dolphin Jump: Lucina goes much higher up, but she doesn’t actually hit anything when using it.

Counter
Lucina_Counterattack_SSB4.jpeg
The Fire Emblem character staple unless you’re Robin. Lucina puts her sword up defensively. If an opponent attacks her while she’s doing this, she will parry the attack and immediately strike back. She can still be grabbed, however. It has two other variations.

Variations:
  • Easy Counter: Lucina stays out longer in her defensive pose, making it easier for her to counterattack enemies. However, it deals less damage.
  • Iai Counter: While Lucina stays in her defensive pose for less time, she attacks at blinding speed when counterattacking. She also goes behind her opponent to attack them, and it deals more damage. It has electrical properties.

Critical Hit
Lucina_Final_Smash.jpg
Lucina’s Final Smash. She points Parallel Falchion up into the sky before charging forward at incredible speeds with her sword forward. If she collides with an opponent, she will stab them, which does insane damage and knocks them very far away. She can stop the dash at any time, even if she used it in the air.

Classes

Lord
FE13_Lord_(Lucina).png
Lucina’s standard Class. The Lord Class primarily uses swords as their weapon of choice. They have high HP, Strength, Skill, Speed, and Defense, but are lacking in Magic, Luck, and Resistance. They are also one of the two Classes that can use Rapiers, with the other being the Great Lord Class.

Bride
FE13_Bride_(Lucina).png
By using a Wedding Bouquet, Lucina can change into the Bride Class. The Bride Class primarily uses lances, bows, and staves as their weapons of choice. They have high HP, Skill, and Speed with average Strength, Magic, Defense, and Resistance, but are lacking in Luck. Despite Class changes usually being permanent unless another Class-changing item is used, Lucina has been shown to be able to freely go back and forth between her Lord Class and Bride Class.

Great Lord
FE13_Great_Lord_(Lucina).png
By using a Master Seal, Lucina can change into the Great Lord Class. The Great Lord Class primarily uses swords and lances as their weapons of choice. They have high HP, Strength, Skill, Speed, and Defense with average Resistance, but are lacking in Magic and Luck. Like the Lord Class, they are one of the two Classes capable of using Rapiers.

Training & Experience

Weaknesses

While Lucina is skilled with multiple weapons, most of those weapons will break after being used too many times. If she’s in a long fight, she might have to rely solely on Parallel Falchion because of this. Also, most of the Skills she learns are more useful if she has an ally with her, which won’t happen in a one-on-one fight. While her Counter technique is great for avoiding damage and striking back, she can still be grabbed out of it, and while Critical Hit may be an insta-kill in Super Smash Bros., this wouldn’t be the case in a realistic combat scenario. Plus, if she misses the attack, it leaves her wide-open. Finally, some of her biggest accomplishments come from the fact that she had many allies by her side, including the time Grima was killed for good.

Summary

MaskedMarth.png
Advantages
  • Multiple weapons with a variety of different ranges
  • Some of her weapons also have bonus effects on certain types of enemies
  • Multiple healing abilities
  • Multiple Class options
  • Some Skills boost her stats and lower her opponent’s
  • Breaking her opponent’s guard leaves them dazed, letting her do follow-up attacks
  • Counter is really good to prevent getting attacked

Disadvantages
  • All her weapons besides Parallel Falchion will eventually break
  • Most of her Skills only work when with an ally
  • Counter doesn’t protect her from being grabbed
  • While Critical Hit is an insta-kill in Super Smash Bros., it wouldn’t be in a realistic fight
  • Missing Critical Hit leaves her wide-open
  • In most of her accomplishments, she had allies helping her out
